Shakespeare Theatre Company
Washington, DC
A modern and accessible theater complex, located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, DC, the Shakespeare Theatre Company is housed in a five-story building. The debut of the Sidney Harman Hall added another stage and 775 more seats to the company’s complex. Together with the already standing Lansburgh Theatre, the new addition created the Harman Center for the Arts. The defining architectural feature of the theater is the glass façade that towers over the sidewalk, establishing the building’s identity and connecting it to its surrounding urban environment.
National Fire Protection was contracted to design and install new wet pipe sprinkler systems, dry pipe sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, a fire pump system, and fire control valves. These systems provide fire protection to the underground parking garage and the office facility above the Theater. The finishes within the building are very high end with multiple tiered ceilings and architectural details.
