Marlins Ballpark

Miami, FL

The future home of Major League Baseball’s Florida Marlins will be a first-class baseball stadium owned by Miami-Dade County. It is currently under construction with a scheduled completion date of April 2012 in time for the beginning of the baseball season. The ballpark site takes up approximately 17 acres of the historic 42-acre Orange Bowl site in the Little Havana section of Miami. The ballpark will have a retractable roof, a natural grass playing field, and 37,000 seats, including approximately 3000 club seats and 60 private suites

National Fire Protection is providing a design-build system utilizing extended coverage sprinklers. All design, as well as all materials, complies with Factory Mutual (FM) standards. NFP’s scope of work includes the installation of over 5400 sprinklers, a 1500 gpm fire pump, 10” DIP underground, nine standpipes with connected systems, approximately forty remote hose valve stations, and FM200 clean agent systems in the Scoreboard and Telecom rooms. In addition, the roof-track is protected inside with fire sprinklers.

This project was coordinated in BIM with participation from all trades. The entire eight level building was modeled in 3D and shows all aspects of the new construction. The stadium was also designed to achieve LEED Silver certification which would make it the first retractable-roof stadium to be so recognized.
