George Mason University Data Center
Fairfax, VA
George Mason University, located in the heart of Northern Virginia’s technology corridor, is home to a nationally recognized information technology program. To meet the needs of its growing IT demands, the university had the Aquia Building built to house its new data center, while planning for future expansion.
The facility is a 50,000 square foot building with three levels. The data center and support rooms are located on the ground floor; offices and classrooms are on the second and third floors.
The bid documents were very conceptual in nature. NFP was a strong partner in the design-build process, helping the project to be completed in a year’s time.
The facility’s automatic fire protection system consists of 537 sprinklers, a 400 gpm fire pump system, a standpipe system, two single interlocked preaction systems, and a wet pipe sprinkler system.
