MedImmune
Frederick, MD
Headquartered in Gaithersburg, MD, MedImmune is a unit of AstraZeneca, a global leader in the biopharmaceutical industry. The facility in Frederick is one of MedImmune’s manufacturing facilities. This project entailed construction of a new building adjacent to the existing facility for the research and production of pharmaceutical products. With this expansion, the facility’s building area spans 500,000 square feet, featuring office and conference rooms, laboratory facilities, and a six-level production area.
NFP designed and installed the fire protection systems for the entire building. Installation required 4500 sprinklers, a 1500 gpm main fire pump, a 1500 gpm secondary fire pump located in a separate building, fourteen preaction systems, an early suppression fast response (ESFR) system in a warehouse area, foam systems, and multiple standpipes.
NFP’s subcontractors constructed a Urea Tank building and fabricated a fire pump house.
This project was built to IBC 2000 and NFPA 13 2002 standards.
