Baltimore County Detention Center Addition
Towson, MD
The first Baltimore County correctional facility was built in 1854. On the same site, the replacement facility was built in 1955 to accommodate the growing inmate population. Over the next thirty years, another new building and two annexes were constructed.
National Fire Protection was selected by Baltimore County to provide and install the fire protection systems for the addition to the existing Baltimore County Detention Center. Approximately 4,000 sprinklers were required for the 350,000 square foot addition. Institutional sprinklers were required in all areas that the inmates had access to. Opening in May 2006, the addition provided a state-of-the-art facility that, with the existing detention center, can house approximately 1,500 inmates.
